Downloading Files From TPT

The file won't download / the download fails

This is often caused by a file name that's too long. This happens when your downloads are set to save inside a deeply nested folder (like a school board drive with many subfolders) — Windows can't handle the combined length of the folder path plus the file name.

Fix: Right-click the download button on TPT and choose "Save link as" or "Save file as," then navigate to your Desktop as the save location. Once it's downloaded there, you can move it wherever you like.

Tip: It's always recommended to download personally purchased resources to a personal device or personal Google Drive, not school board systems.

The file is a Google Drive file and I don't have a Google account

Some TPT sellers deliver resources as Google Drive files. You don't need a Google account to use them — Google Drive files are fully compatible with Microsoft Office.

Fix: When you click the link, choose File > Download > Microsoft Word (or PowerPoint, etc.) to save it as an Office file. You can then open it in Word, PowerPoint, or Publisher as usual.

I can't open the zipped folder

Some TPT resources come as .zip files containing multiple items. Windows can preview zip files but may not fully extract them without the right tool.

Fix: Right-click the .zip file and choose "Extract All." If that doesn't work, download a free tool like 7-Zip (7-zip.org) to unzip the folder.

The PDF won't open or display properly

This is usually because Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader is out of date.

Fix: Open Adobe Reader, go to Help > Check for Updates, and install any available updates. Alternatively, you can open PDFs directly in your browser (Chrome, Edge, or Firefox) by dragging the file into a browser window.

The file is too large to download

Some resource bundles are large files and may time out or fail on slower connections or networks with download size limits (common on school board networks).

Fix: Try downloading on a personal device using your home internet or personal data. If the file is delivered via Google Drive, open it in Google Drive first and then download from there, as Google sometimes compresses files for easier downloading.

The file is in the wrong format (Keynote, HTML, etc.)

Occasionally a resource may have been uploaded by the seller in a format that isn't compatible with Windows or Microsoft Office — for example, a Keynote file (Mac/Apple only) or an HTML file.

Fix: Keynote files cannot be opened on a PC without a conversion tool. Check the TPT listing to confirm the file format before purchasing. If you've already purchased a resource and the format doesn't work for you, contact the seller through TPT — most sellers are happy to provide an alternate format. You can also contact TPT support for a resolution.
